Typical day in our Children's House classrooms

Morning schedule
8:30-8:45am
Arrival time – Please enter the driveway from the upper Moseley Complex entrance (this is a one way). Pull up alongside the fire lane as close to the school as possible (almost up to the playground). Sunrise staff members will bring each student from the car line into the school where the teachers will assist them into the classroom.

If you choose to walk your child(ren)to the door, please park in the upper lot and walk down to the entrance. Hold your child's hand in the busy parking lot. Do not park along the drop off circle, please.

8:45-11:45am
Work Cycle Time - Teachers give individual and/or small group lessons from the various areas of the curriculum: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Geography, Art, Cultural Studies, Science, History

Circle/Group Time – Typically lasts about 20 minutes; including short songs, books, calendar, weather, large group lessons from various curriculum areas, etc...

Sensation Station - Once each week the classrooms visit Sensation Station in the Hayward St complex for an hour. This program fosters cooperation, social and emotional development and provides an additional opportunity for the children to work on their small and gross motor skills.

Snack – Sunrise requests that students bring their own snack to school each day (items such as fruits, veggies, yogurt, cheese, muffins, crackers, etc... are recommended). To help teachers and students distinguish what items are for lunch and/or snack, please label accordingly. Or you may wish to have a separate snack pouch along with a lunch box. Sunrise provides fresh fruits and vegetables weekly for the classroom Practical Life activities (i.e., orange juicing, apple cutting, banana cutting, carrot peeling and cutting, etc.)

Recess – Both classrooms enjoy Outdoor Recess beginning around 11am. Indoor break is offered during inclement weather days. Recess / Break typically lasts 30-45 minutes.

Dismissal for morning students - children who attend a morning only schedule are dismissed beginning at 11:30am.

11:45am-12:30pm
Lunch Time within each classroom group, an individual water bottle is recommended, please label all your child’s food storage items, water bottles and ice packs with their name.

12:30-1:15pm
Rest Time for preschoolers begins in each classroom. Kindergarten students continue lessons with the Head Teachers.

Kindergarten Schedule
The kindergarten students receive lessons throughout the morning work cycle every day. Additionally, between 12:30-1:15pm Kindergarten aged students will work with their classroom Head Teacher in the front room areas for specific lessons and are not required to participate in rest time. Activities will include lessons and extensions from each of the curriculum areas.

1:15-2:00pm
Work Time resumes for all students in classrooms.

2:00pm
Closing Group & Recess - Students prepare for end of day and enjoy Outdoor Recess or Indoor Break (during inclement weather).

2:30pm
Dismissal Time from Playground Area. NOTE: If raining or inclement weather, full day students will be brought to your car in the car line. Please pull up past the walkway and towards the playground.

Afterschool Program between 2:30-5:30pm
Please notify the office ahead of time if your child is participating in the afterschool program and pack an additional afterschool snack.
